The countdown begins until Halloween. It's officially October, and we are having pumpkin fever. What are the plans for this Halloween? Will you be scaring souls with the spooky stories, or will you be skippy away door to door collecting all the candy you can get? I love playing tricks on my girls. They can't stand it, but it's my little payback for all the days they drive me crazy. Just a little mom humor won't hurt anybody. LOL! In the meantime, before we go trick-or-treating, we get fall festive. We visit farms, do a little apple and pumpkin picking, and of course, we carve some pumpkins. My girls love that. We also get invited to a ton of Halloween parties for some more fun. I think this year I'm going to be a cat. It's an old but classic costume that looks cute and fearless for the Halloween Spooks. What will you be this Halloween? Is it all about the trick or do you have some treats in store for yourself/ family?
As girls, we pick ourselves apart. Society has a way of telling us what to wear and how a girl/women should physically represent herself. I think NOT! When I was younger, I use to fall victim to society's upkeeps. I came out that bubble fast. It was to much work to have people or anyone tell me what my style is, which can lead to self-esteem issues. Put on makeup and always wear it, or even tell me how to dress. I MAKE THE RULES when it comes to my style. That's what makes me, me.
When I had my daughters, I knew for sure that I was going to teach them the same thing. Lead by example, and let a girl know that its okay to be different. It's okay not to keep up with society must do's and don'ts. When the American singer-songwriter and musician Alicia Keys decided not to wear any makeup anymore, it was an eye-opener for myself and for many girls/ women. Beauty does not define how pretty your face is covered up. Although I am one who does wear makeup, I DECIDE when, where and how long.
I Make The Rules! Beauty & Brains! Just Call Me Pretty! This goes for all girls.
Raise your hand if you struggle with feeling motivated at times. Girls, it's the story of my life. Sometimes you're on full blast, and then something happens that makes you feel low. All the what-ifs and stepping struggles to get to the victory line. One minute you are high, and then you go low. We all go through it. The question is how do you push through? How do you tell yourself you can do it?
Take a time out! Now that doesn't mean give up or completely stop working towards your goals or dreams. It means walk away, rehabilitate and start again or pick up where you left off. As girls, big or small, our mind goes ham. Literally! It's like, putting that ham in the oven and overcooking it and then it all burn and hard. We love to burn ourselves out. Stress is real. Your struggles are real. Master things at a pace not all at once. Try to remind yourself, you can and you will. I'll be the first to start today. How about you?

When you have a vision, a dream, or even just a beginning thought of a new venture you want everything to be perfect. You can see your ideas played out. You tell yourself this is going to work. It will be great and people will like your idea. You get into the groove of things. Everything is set up ready to go. You spread the word to tell you are here. Look at you shining. When things take a turn, you don't feel so bright, you doubt yourself. You start to ask yourself different questions like, what am I doing wrong. How come? Then you start to believe maybe your dream isn't what you thought. Maybe its just not meant to be. It's time to try something different or give up. In that moment of doubt, it's easy to give up. You'll find every reason why you shouldn't instead of every reason why you should. Everything around you is proving to you maybe you should give up. But as you look for the satisfaction to make everyone else love your idea, believe in it, and support it, you forgot to do so yourself. You forgot consistency is key to success. Keep moving and keep pushing through. Yes, the pumps and bruises will hurt. Yes, all lesson you might feel like you can do without them. Yes, sometimes it's not easy. But do you want it if it is? Do you want simple in every aspect of your life? Or do you want the confidence, the inner fight, positive spirit and a graceful outlook on your life to push yourself? Be you! Stop looking for everyone to notice and accept you before you accept yourself. Focus! Don't give up. You will succeed. You have to fight the challenge. It may be more than one battle, but no one loses every single time when they believe and step out their comfort zone and FIGHT TO WIN! Whatever You Do Just Be yourself and go get your dream.
Our new items were inspired by showing girls true colors. No one can damper your shine! Follow your own rainbow and be motivated to be someone great, just the way you are. Have fun with being you. Have a little sass, be over the top, and be a star. Even as an adult I have to remind myself of these things. Life is work and can be very hard at times, but it can also bring so much joy and rewards. Go ahead and live out loud and proud. Shot out to the world, you are here and you're not going anywhere!
When a girl just wants to sparkle and shine you can't stop her. We believe all girls sparkle in their own way. Today for our very first Sparkle Friday we had so much fun. Starr who is my lovely daughter and Creative Director for Colors Of A Girl did an amazing job twirling today. Although it was a snow day for us here on the northeast side, we manage to still put in work, be creative and just be girls! As we always say the inner you is a better you! Enjoy the rest of your Sparkling Friday.
Sometimes as young girls and us women life seems to hit us with a box of tricks. Life switches the cards on us and deals us unexpected, unpredictable challenges, disappointments, and heartaches. What should you do with the cards you were just dealt? You might even get dealt that same hand but in a different way over and over again. What do you do when this happens? Be Your Creative Best!
Being your creative best has nothing to do with being crafty, being a great seamstress or building this mind-blowing solution. Being creative in your status at that moment is you being shifty. Switch the cards to make it work for you. Yes, you will sometimes hear bad news, and yes, you can't change the hand you are dealt all the time. You can change the reaction to it. You can tell yourself not today will this card in my hand be my ending result. Make your problems your creative project. Get all the glue, pens, colors, and paper you need to make it work for you. Keep at it. Don't just have one idea and be done with it. Your life is your masterpiece and you're the only one who is perfecting it. In life, perfection doesn't mean perfect. It means you are the only one who has the ideal plan, dreams, and ambition to excel your life to its fullest. To all my young, older, and grown girls, be creative with your mind. Feel creative with your soul. Make it your very best and know that YOU can always find a creative solution in the worst, unpredictable and unexpected mess.
Colors Of A Girl has been quiet for a couple of weeks. We promise it's for a very good reason. We've been preparing some exciting thing for you. We have also done some updates to the website. Now you are able to write testimonial or do a video testimonial. There will be more products, more engagement, fun events for all to enjoy, and much much more. Colors Of A Girl is dedicated to making every experience with us enjoyable and memorable. Starr Lynn Davis & Leanna Angela Davis are the faces of Colors Of A Girl and you will be seeing more of them. All the calls, messages and feedback we received, we listened and now putting them to work. Keep the feedback coming. Our customers (YOU) matter. With that being said, let's get to work and make 2018 a great one.
